Loss of tolerance to nucleic acids is the hallmark of systemic lupus erythematosus, a prototypic autoimmune disease. However autoantibodies alone are not sufficient for autoimmune organ damage. We will discuss how kidney innate immunity sets the stage for autoimmune glomerulonephritis.
