Doctoral Support

Doctoral Student Network

By establishing the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Chronic Inflammation“ in 2016, the long-standing close cooperation between the German Rheumatism Research Center (DRFZ) and the Charité University Medicine Berlin finally cumulated in a structured research network. Its goal is to strengthen the local collaboration and exchange between clinicians and scientists by establishing collaborative/joint lecture series or doctoral researcher and Postdoc networks. In the course of this, us doctoral researchers decided to take up on this idea on a smaller, more personal level. We regularly organize networking events and biannual doctoral researcher assemblies where we elect representatives and discuss our ideas and wishes for our education and graduate programs (LeGCI, ZIBI), enrollments at universities or career perspectives. We have also reached out to the doctoral researchers of the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology (MPIIB) to extend our local network even further.
On the Leibniz level, we are highly involved in the Leibniz PhD Network. We participate in the working groups which organize the network’s communication and annual General Assembly and are even represented in the steering group.
Overall, we aim to foster exchange of experiences and ideas between doctoral researchers, both locally and across institutes outside of Berlin.

The doctoral researchers representation is particularly concerned with the following topics:

  1. Acting as a contact person and person of trust for the doctoral researchers (the e-mail address is: phd-reps@drfz.de) and organization of semi-annual doctoral student meetings
  2. Promoting the solidarity of young scientists at the DRFZ and ScienceCampus Chronic Inflammation (e.g. Networking BBQ)
  3. Representation of the DRFZ in the doctoral network of the Leibniz Association (Leibniz PhD Network)
