Master thesis project in the “Inflammatory Mechanisms” group AG Hegazy
The “Inflammatory Mechanisms” group at the Deutsches Rheuma-Forschungszentrum (DRFZ) Berlin, A Leibniz-Institute, and the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (CBF) is looking for a master student (m/f/div) from the fields of biology/biotechnology/molecular medicine for a master thesis project (9-12 months).
The “Inflammatory Mechanisms” group investigates the complex interplay between microbiota and the host immune system in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The group uses a combination of cutting‑edge technologies, high throughput culture methods, cell and organoid cultures, physiological mouse models of colitis and well‑defined patient cohorts to identify the environmental, microbial, and inflammatory drivers that promote maladaptation and gut tissue inflammation. The group has laboratories at both the Deutsches Rheuma-Forschungszentrum Berlin, A Leibniz-Institute, and the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin-Campus Benjamin Franklin. For further information about the group, please visit: hegazy-lab.com
The master thesis project will utilize mouse and human 3D intestinal epithelial organoid cultures as well as a combination of cell biology and molecular biology techniques to dissect the signaling pathway of a newly discovered pathogenic cytokine in IBD.
