Understanding animal experiments (Tierversuche verstehen)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The \u2018Understanding Animal Experiments\u2019 initiative (Tierversuche Verstehen<\/a>) honours research institutions and scientific organisations that are committed to transparent and open communication and dialogue about animal experimentation and research involving the use of animal in an exemplary manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its justification for honouring the DRFZ, the initiative writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018On its website, the German Rheumatology Research Centre (DRFZ) provides comprehensive and easily accessible information on all aspects of animal research. This includes an up-to-date count of the number of animals used in their research as well as the degree of burden they are exposed to. In addition, a wealth of videos and photos offer an insight into the animal research performed, including how the DRFZ implenets stress reduction measures and carefully handles mice day-to-day. The content of the DRFZ website therefore combines theoretical content with practical insights presented in an easily accessible and engaging manner. The combination of presenting accurate metrics of animals used in the research at the DRFZ alongside regularly updated multimedia content, demonstrates the commitment of the DRFZ to the transparent communication of the role of animals in research. The DRFZ is therefore a leader in objectively and transparently clarifying the role of animals in research and any addressing any misunderstandings.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tierversuche verstehen<\/em> has published over 200 quotes from researchers<\/a> <\/a>who point out that animal experiments are still necessary. Where alternatives exist, they are used, and efforts are being made to find further 3R approaches. Nevertheless, scientific progress cannot be allowed to come to a standstill, which is why research without animals is currently still impossible. Two DRFZ scientists are also drawing attention to their important work with statements.

Animal research in dialogue<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u2018What if there was no more animal experimentation?\u2019 Why are animal experiments still being carried out when there are so many alternative methods available today? In order to better inform the public and participate in the discussion about animal experiments, the DRFZ takes part in events such as \u201cTierversuche im Gespr\u00e4ch\u201d (Animal experiments in conversation) or \u201cLeibniz debattiert\u201d (Leibniz debates<\/a>). Here, the question of whether animal experiments are still necessary, what alternatives are available today and how they should be handled is discussed with the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How are the animals doing? Who actually benefits from such experiments? There is great public interest in these questions, but at the same time there are still many myths circulating on the subject of animal research. In this situation, first-hand information is needed, as well as an open discussion on equal footing. This is why initiatives such as \u201cUnderstanding Animal Experiments\u201d (Tierversuche verstehen<\/a>) and \u201cPro-Test Germany\u201d (Pro-Test Deutschland<\/a>) provide information about animal research based on scientific facts and assessments, as well as asking critical questions and promoting open dialog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
