{"id":15933,"date":"2025-03-26T13:31:24","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T13:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drfz.de\/?p=15933"},"modified":"2025-07-17T12:53:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T12:53:50","slug":"frakturheilung-auf-der-uberholspur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drfz.de\/en\/neuigkeiten\/frakturheilung-auf-der-uberholspur\/","title":{"rendered":"Fracture healing on the fast track"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The local application of deferoxamine (DFO) significantly accelerates fracture healing, as a systematic review and meta-analysis of 21 studies compiled by Daniel M\u00fcller, PD Dr. Paula Hoff, Charit\u00e9 &#8211; Universit\u00e4tsmedizin Berlin and Dr. Timo Gaber from the research group of Prof. Dr. Frank Buttgereit from Charit\u00e9 &#8211; Universit\u00e4tsmedizin Berlin and DRFZ in cooperation with Jens Klotsche from DRFZ shows. Given the high incidence of bone fractures and the associated complications, DFO is a promising treatment option, especially for patients with delayed healing. The results of this work have been published in the journal Advanced Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by Daniel M\u00fcller and colleagues, the influence of locally applied DFO on bone healing in rat and mouse models was investigated. The analysis of 21 studies with a total of 539 animals shows that DFO achieves significantly higher values of bone volume fraction (BV\/TV) and improves important parameters such as bone volume, tissue mass, bone density, trabecular structure and vascularization &#8211; confirmed by state-of-the-art \u00b5CT, angiography and mechanical stress tests. With an annual fracture incidence of 1.2 % and complications in up to 10 % of cases, especially after radiotherapy, these results represent a decisive advance in orthopaedics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This study not only investigates the biological mechanism of improved fracture healing, but also paves the way for rapid clinical application &#8211; with the aim of supporting patients at high risk of healing complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n  <section id=\"block_6a715f817d45420ac5deae7350280325\" class=\"section links-list  alignwide \">\n    <div class=\"container container--center\">\n      \n      <div class=\"links-list__items-wrap\">\n        \n<div class=\"links-list__items links-list__items--row \">\n      <div class=\"links-list__item  launimation slideBottom\">\n      \n      <a href=\"https:\/\/advanced.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/advs.202413290\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"h6 links-list__item-title\">Original publication<\/a>\n\n              <span class=\"links-list__item-underline\">Daniel M\u00fcller, Jens Klotsche, Magdalena B.
