Privatdozent at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin

On September 9, 2025, PD Dr. rer. nat. Mir-Farzin Mashreghi gave his inaugural lecture on “From Immune Response to Long-Term Immunity: Recruitment of Plasma Cells from Follicular and Extrafollicular Immune Responses in the Bone Marrow.” He presented findings from his research and showed how they contribute to our understanding of long-term immune memory. On June 16, 2025, Mir-Farzin Mashreghi habilitated at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, thereby qualifying him to teach experimental pediatrics.

Since many years, the immunologist has been working closely with Prof. Tilmann Kallinich, who heads the Rheumatology Section of the Medical Clinic for Pediatrics with a focus on pneumology, immunology, and intensive care medicine. Tilmann Kallinich is also liaison group leader at the DRFZ. This collaboration has already yielded important research results. In addition to his scientific work, Mir-Farzin Mashreghi is also very committed to teaching.

Mir-Farzin Mashreghi heads the Therapeutic Gene Regulation research group at the DRFZ, and is also responsible for the Systems Rheumatology programme area. Since 2023, he has been Deputy Scientific Director and is thus involved in the further development of the institute, the research focus, and the strengthening of interdisciplinary collaboration.

The biochemist has been researching at the DRFZ for almost 20 years. His work focuses on analyzing pathogenic cell types at the single-cell level and identifying specific molecular patterns that are relevant for targeted therapies and diagnostics. He has established the technology platform for next-generation sequencing at the DRFZ and is investigating which cells perform disease-promoting or protective functions—findings that can also be used for personalized diagnostics, for example, using artificial intelligence.
