With its focus on rheumatic diseases, the German Rheumatism Research Center Berlin (DRFZ) is unique in Germany and is one of the leading international institutes in the field of immunology, experimental rheumatology and rheumatism epidemiology. This is due not least to the unique interdisciplinary collaboration between the experts conducting research at the DRFZ in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, sociology and statistics. An exciting opportunity exists as a full-time research technician in the Laboratory of Prof. Eicke Latz. The Latz laboratory is dedicated to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of innate immune activation that play a crucial role in autoinflammatory, rheumatologic and chronic inflammatory diseases. In this role you will be supporting the histology experiments of lab members in their projects  as well as fulfilling typical laboratory tasks including managing lab stocks and reagents and maintaining lab databases. This position would suit someone who is highly organised, accurate in their experimentation and adaptable to learning new techniques.

Primary responsibilities

  • Preparation and processing of animal histological samples, including organ embedding, cutting and slide staining.
  • Organization of lab stocks and sample/reagent database management
  • Cell culture, including cell line creation (i.e., CRISPR knockouts and overexpression models), innate immune stimulation assays and isolation and culture of primary human blood cells.   

Your profile:

Good communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable. Motivated in learning new techniques.

Essential knowledge and skills:

  • Qualification as BTA (Biological Technical Assistant), MTA (Medical Technical Assistant), or biological laboratory technician (Biologielaborant:in) (m/f/d) or Bachelors and Masters degree in appropriate area of study, or relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience, particularly with experience in the preparation of histological specimens and/or working with animals.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to accurately record data and results.
  • Proficiency in English and German (written and spoken)
  • High level of enthusiasm, motivation, and responsibility
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
