Laleh Khodadadi : Targeting Plasma cells

Veranstaltungsdatum

Thursday, 15 November 2018 || Time: 14:00

Beschreibung

Secreted antibodies that are directed against specific infectious pathogens are an essential component of the immune system and provide efficient protection against recurrent infections. If immunological tolerance fails, secreted antibodies specific for autoantigens, alloantigens, or allergens can cause chronic inflammatory diseases such as autoimmune disorders, transplanted organ rejection or allergies. This plethora of several hundred different clinical disease entities affects more than 10% of the human population. Plasma cells secreting pathogenic antibodies are a key deriver of chronic inflammation. Therefore, they have become a very promising candidate target for treating antibody-mediated diseases. In this lecture the novel therapies targeting plasma cells will be discussed.
