Immunobiology of inflammation

The Eicke Latz laboratory is dedicated to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of innate immune activation that play a crucial role in autoinflammatory, rheumatologic and chronic inflammatory diseases. Utilizing a blend of systems immunology, experimental biology, and human translational science, the lab seeks to understand how the innate immune system either maintains balance or contributes to the development of inflammatory diseases. The insights gained are crucial for a variety of auto-inflammatory, autoimmune, and chronic inflammatory conditions. To validate the significance of their discoveries, the laboratory utilizes preclinical models and reverse translational methods, which encompass the use of biomaterials sourced from patients and the implementation of observational clinical trials. The lab’s research has led to the identification of new therapeutic targets, resulting in the creation of several biotech companies aimed at converting these basic research discoveries into innovative treatments and preventive strategies.
