Julia Rautenstrauch is a new member of the DRFZ Board of Trustees

Julia Rautenstrauch (MD), from Stuttgart, Germany, was appointed as a new member of the DRFZ Board of Trustees at the end of April 2022. Dr Rautenstrauch is Executive Director of the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR).

The physician and journalist has been closely associated with rheumatology in Germany and Europe for many years.

During her medical studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, she also trained as a journalist and worked as a freelance science journalist for over 20 years. She has published more than 4000 articles in medical and general journals.

In 2000, she became press spokesperson for the Rheumatism Competence Network in Berlin. From 2003 to 2007, she was head of the Press and Public Relations Department at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg, before taking over as Vice President and later Secretary General of MEDICA e. V., (the German Society for Interdisciplinary Medicine). During this time, she organised the annual MEDICA Congress in Düsseldorf as Managing Director of MedCongress GmbH. In 2013, Julia Rautenstrauch became Secretary General of the German Society of Rheumatology (DGRh) and Executive Director of the Rheumatological Training Academy. Since 2017, she has been Executive Director of EULAR.

For her tireless commitment to rheumatology, she was honored with both the Kussmaul Medal of the DGRh and the Carol Nachman Medal for Rheumatology of the City of Wiesbaden.

Due to Julia Rautenstrauch’s many years of cooperation with the DRFZ as a journalist, press spokesperson and later Secretary General of the DGRh, ourinstitute is very familiar to her.
